A Digital Transfem Life
Creative Soul
If you’ve ever felt the quiet thrill of holding something you made with your own two hands, you’re in the right place.
The Story Behind Transfem
Transfem.ca wasn’t born in a boardroom; it began at my desk, surrounded by a mess of provincial healthcare forms and half-answered questions. For too long, I lived in a quiet space of doubt, navigating what I call the “thick Wyrdness”—that overwhelming feeling of trying to find your way through a system that often feels like a survival game with a missing map.
I started this site as a personal journal to document my own milestones—like finally hitting my 4-month HRT mark and feeling, for the first time, like the real me but it quickly grew into something more: a mission to ensure no one else has to navigate this path in the dark. What started as a way to reclaim my own voice has become a shared map for our community, bridging the gap between clinical government sites and the human reality of our transitions.
My Philosophy
“I believe that creativity is not a rare talent reserved for the ‘gifted’—it is a practice, a habit, and a form of self-care. In a world that demands constant speed, making something by hand is a radical act of slowing down. It grounds us, heals us, and reminds us of our capability.”
What You’ll Find Here
Navigating Healthcare
Transitioning in Canada is a provincial puzzle. From finding a trans-friendly GP to understanding the WPATH guidelines and accessing HRT, this section breaks down the clinical side of things. No medical jargon—just the steps you need to take to get the care you deserve.
The Journey
My personal story—the “thick Wyrdness,” HRT updates, and the honest reality of life as a transfem woman in Canada. It’s proof that while the system is complex, the destination is worth the hike.
Local Support Hubs
Community shouldn’t be hard to find. This section is a curated map of local organizations, peer support groups, and regional clinics from BC to Newfoundland. Whether you’re in a big city or a small town, you’re not doing this alone.
Legal & Documentation
Changing your name and gender marker can feel like an endless loop of government forms. We’ve compiled the checklists for birth certificates, passports, and driver’s licenses across every province. We handle the red tape so you can focus on being yourself.
Hi, I’m Sarah
Hey, I’m Sarah. 🏳️⚧️
For a long time, I lived in the quiet space of doubt, trying to find my rhythm while navigating what I call the “thick Wyrdness”—that fog where you’re constantly redefining yourself just to keep the shadows at bay.
I’ve spent over 20 years married to my incredible wife, Felicity, and together we’ve built a life in Canada filled with our dogs, way too many video games, and plenty of 🌿. I hit my 4-month HRT mark recently, and while the “holy shit, this is real” energy is definitely there, I finally feel like I’m becoming the real me.
A Note to the Reader
Whether you’re here to find the first form for your legal name change or simply to find a bit of kinship in the personal stories I share, I am so honored you’ve chosen to spend your time here. I know how daunting the “road” of this journey can feel, but you don’t have to navigate it in the dark. I hope this space encourages you to advocate for your care, trust your own timing, and see the beauty in the person you are becoming.
Let’s find our way forward together.
